Kadiri Akeem, a lecturer at the University of Lagos, UNILAG, was detained by police officers in Lagos State for allegedly raping a 20-year-old undergraduate student.
The alleged victim had accused the Associate Professor of Botany of raping her in his office when she went to him to address problems with her results.
The incident happened on August 16, 2023, and she reported it to an NGO, the Inclusive Social Welfare & Empowerment Foundation (ISWEF).
The state CP, Idowu Owohunwa, issued an arrest warrant for Kadiri through the state High Court after ISWEF reported the situation to the Gender Unit of the state police command.
The Vice Chancellor was kept abreast of the situation and had called the rogue lecturer in for questioning. The NGO later claimed that the associate professor had admitted to the crime. The VC then called the police, who have now detained Mr. Kadiri.
