On Saturday, unknown gunmen attacked a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) branch in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, murdering the pastor and kidnapping seven congregants.
Soji Ganzallo, the Ogun State government-owned So-Safe Corps commander, verified the incident and stated his officers rescued the seven church members and killed one kidnapper.
In a message to Abeokuta reporters, So-Safe Director of Information and Public Relations Moruf Yusuf said the event occurred at 12 a.m. on Saturday, July 1.
“The special operation team of the Corps, Owode-Egba Zonal Command, under ACC Jimoh Rasaki Omoniyi, received a distress call that some members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, were attacked during a vigil, while seven members of the church were kidnapped and the pastor killed,” Ganzallo said.
According to him, Corps officers were ordered to pursue the perpetrators and rescue the kidnapped victims.
“The seven victims were rescued unhurt, while one of the kidnappers was killed and many of the suspects sustained serious injuries during the exchange of gunfire,” Ganzallo said.
He stated that the Police and So-Safe Corps are pursuing the fleeing kidnappers to arrest them alive.
He revealed that the dead kidnapper was in a neighboring mortuary.
