West Ham to Acquire Edson Alvarez from Ajax

West Ham have reached a £34m agreement with Ajax to acquire Edson Alvarez.

Alvarez, a Mexican international, will now fly to London for a medical before becoming the Hammers’ first significant summer signing.

West Ham will finally use some of the proceeds from the £105m sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal last month.

Alvarez began his professional career with the Mexican team America before deciding to join Ajax in 2019.

13 goals have been scored by him in 147 games for Ajax.

West Ham’s initial bid for Alvarez was £30m, but they were told to raise it.

With Alvarez, they had already reached an agreement on a five-year contract earning £148,000 per week.

Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea were also interested in the 25-year-old, but he is now expected to sign with the Hammers.

Following a disagreement over recruitment, Moyes’ job as manager of West Ham is in jeopardy.

Throughout the summer, there have been increasing tensions due to differences of opinion.

Moyes, Tim Steidten, the new technical director, and co-owner David Sullivan discussed transfer targets.
