Burnley’s Wout Weghorst accepts a season-long loan to Bundesliga team Hoffenheim after a disappointing Old Trafford stint last season.
The 31-year-old played the first part of the previous season on loan for Besiktas before switching to Manchester United for the second half.
Despite making 31 appearances for Erik ten Hag’s team and scoring just twice, the Netherlands international was unable to win a long-term contract.
Before his transfer to Germany was officially announced on Tuesday, Weghorst, who joined Burnley for £12m in January 2022, said an emotional farewell to the team.
“Dear Man United fans, thanks for everything,” he said in a video posted on Instagram. “I really enjoyed every single second at this club.
“From winning silverware to scoring my first goal against Real Betis at Old Trafford.
“Dreams come true. Unbelievably proud to wear the badge. Wish you all the best for the future. Manchester United fans – thank you for everything.”
The diligent front man joins the Bundesliga team Hoffenheim, which finished the previous season in 12th place.
