Spanish Side Osasuna Faces Disciplinary Actions Amidst Greenwood’s Chant

Osasuna will face punishment from La Liga after supporters chanted “Greenwood, die” towards Greenwood during their Sunday game against Getafe which ended with a 3-2 scoreline.

The player Greenwood, who is on loan from Manchester United was introduced in the 77th minute in the second half of the game on Sunday 17th of September 2023, to make his first appearance for his New Club in a game that ended 3-2, in favor of Getafe.

A section of the away supporters chanted “Greenwood die” while the player was introduced into the game. The appearance of Mason Greenwood was his first in a competitive match for the last 19 months. He was influential in the game and contributed to the winning goal as his blocked shot called for a corner kick that Nemanja Maksimovic.

Talking to The Athletic, Osasuna Head Coach Jogoba Arrasate condemned the attitude as he also condemned the taunting from the Home supporters.

“The chants of ‘Fuck Osasuna’ were very bad and the chants against Greenwood were very bad too. He(greenwood) is a player who in the end, the justice system had its say. He is a very good player but if we talk about chants we should talk about all the chants and not just some,” the Head coach stated.

Parallel Facts recalls that the player was served justice after the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped Greenwood’s case for attempted rape, assault, and coercive control in February. Manchester United after satisfyingly investigating the situation, concluded that Mason Greenwood’s return to the first team would be happening.

His move to Getafe from Manchester United is a straight loan deal and there are beliefs that the player may kick off his career again at his new Spanish side. interestingly, Getafe has provided a very comfortable “Home” for the young lad and the feeling in the club is highly welcoming.
